Before understanding how F.R.I.E.S could be applied to technology, I thought my camera and the ability to access someone's personal device were normal. This week's reading made me reevaluate what is consent when it comes to technology and how we can avoid assumptions that deal with the user. This involved my own experimental camera and the assumptions I made when building it like automatically turning on the camera before asking and also not giving the user a way out once they decide to load it.
My flowchart really helped to breakdown where there could be hole within my camera when it comes to the consent test. I noticed that I didn't ask for permision and assumed the user would be willing to share their camera. I also didn't ask they were alright with graphics and buttons popping up on their screen which can be really intrusive. Lastly, I wanted to give an option to quit the camera all together and have a button for capturing so that the user would have power over the design.
Overall, I'm excited to take this knowledge and make my future projects more contentful. Understanding that you must turn over every rock along the way so that your end product is thoughtful. My limitations with p5.js left the ending of my camera to deviate from the flowchart. I hope eventually give the user an option as to where their photo will be stored whether it be on the cloud or their prefered local disk.
